SECURITY RESEARCH

VTA vs Bitcoin — Security Lab

A structured framework for studying proof-of-work security, chain reorganizations, difficulty behavior and network concentration. No security score is assigned without measurable evidence.

SECURITY 01

Proof-of-Work

Document the mining algorithm, difficulty target and chain-selection rules used by each network.

Protocol audit
SECURITY 02

Difficulty Adjustment

Compare the documented adjustment mechanism and observe how each network responds to changes in block production.

Protocol + live test
SECURITY 03

Chain Reorganizations

Record observed reorganizations and analyze confirmation risk under a defined observation period.

Live measurement
SECURITY 04

Mining Concentration

Measure miner or pool concentration and disclose the time window and data source used.

Network data
SECURITY 05

Double-Spend Model

Study the assumptions behind confirmation security and the economic conditions relevant to an attack.

Research model
SECURITY 06

Node Verification

Evaluate how independently operated nodes validate blocks and transactions and how quickly invalid data is rejected.

Implementation audit

Security Baseline

The VTA paper contains historical descriptions of its PoW and difficulty rules. These are starting points for the audit, not a current security rating.

Security Test Procedure

STEP 01

Freeze the Rules

Record exact protocol and source-code versions used in the study.

STEP 02

Collect Network Data

Capture blocks, timestamps, difficulty, hashpower indicators and pool distribution.

STEP 03

Analyze Events

Identify delays, forks and reorganizations and avoid interpreting isolated events without context.

STEP 04

Model Risk

State assumptions explicitly when estimating attack cost or confirmation security.

STEP 05

Cross-check

Compare independent sources and repeat measurements where practical.

STEP 06

Publish

Show data, calculations, methodology and limitations instead of a simple winner label.

Important: A different PoW algorithm or faster block interval does not by itself prove stronger security. Security depends on the complete protocol, actual network participation, hashpower, implementation correctness and economic conditions.
