PAYMENT & SETTLEMENT RESEARCH

VTA vs Bitcoin — Payment Lab

Evaluate blockchain payment characteristics through defined scenarios, measurable settlement data and transparent methodology.

PAYMENT 01

Settlement Latency

Measure time from transaction broadcast to one or more confirmations under the same test conditions.

Live measurement
PAYMENT 02

Fee per Payment

Compare actual transaction fees for equivalent payment scenarios and report the units used.

Live measurement
PAYMENT 03

Merchant Workflow

Map address generation, invoice creation, payment detection and confirmation handling.

Integration study
PAYMENT 04

Reliability

Record failed, delayed, replaced or reorganized transactions during a defined observation period.

Network study
PAYMENT 05

Node Verification

Compare how a merchant can independently observe and verify incoming payments.

Architecture study
PAYMENT 06

Operational Cost

Model infrastructure requirements for a merchant or payment processor without assuming a specific business outcome.

Documented Starting Point

The VTA paper provides protocol parameters that can guide the payment experiments. They are not, by themselves, measurements of real-world payment performance.

Payment Benchmark Procedure

Use identical or explicitly normalized conditions wherever the two networks permit it.

01

Create

Prepare equivalent payment transactions and record their exact sizes and timestamps.

02

Broadcast

Record first-seen time from defined nodes or providers.

03

Confirm

Record each confirmation and any reorganization or delay observed.

04

Report

Publish raw observations, averages/percentiles, conditions and limitations.

Research rule: A 60-second target block can indicate a shorter block interval, but it does not automatically establish faster, safer or cheaper merchant settlement. Those conclusions require measured network data and an explicitly defined confirmation policy.
